As of last weekend, the Santa Anita racetrack has now seen 33 horse deaths since December last year. The 33rd of those horses was a 5-year-old gelding, named Ky. Colonel, who died at the track of a suspected heart attack.

A 3-year-old colt was sadly euthanised at the same track late last month, after reportedly breaking two front forelimbs.

The devastatingly high number of horse deaths at Santa Anita Park have made headlines this past year, with many concerned about the welfare of horses that train and race at the facility. The race track is set to host the 2019 Breeders Cup World Championships, which commences on the 1st of November.
