A return to lockdown in Warendorf after Coronavirus resurgence

By Equestrian Life

A neighbouring district of Warendorf, Germany, has seen a major resurgence in Coronavirus cases, leading to the tightening of restrictions in the region.

Warendorf, in North Rhine-Westphalia, is home to many in the equestrian community and the German Equestrian Centre. The restrictions mean the cancellation of horse competitions at the venue, just as they were starting back up again.

The equestrian centre in Warendorf is home to many big events, including the Bundeschampionate (Germany National Young Horse Championships).

The new lockdown was triggered by an outbreak in which 1,540 of 6,140 slaughterhouse employees contracted the virus in nearby Gütersloh. The district, which has over 360,000 inhabitants, was placed into lockdown - and Warendorf, being a neighbouring district and housing a population of 278,000, is following the same restrictions.

It is the first area of Germany to return to tighter controls, following the recent lifting of restrictions.
