Aussie Kelly Layne second in CDI3* Grand Prix and Freestyle

By Equestrian Life

US-based Australian dressage rider Kelly Layne has finished second in the CDI3* Grand Prix and Freestyle classes with Samhitas at the Adequan® Global Dressage Fall Festival (13-16 November) in Wellington, Florida.

The pair scored 67.652% in the Grand Prix and 72.090% in the Freestyle.

Bianca Tota and Cadento V won both classes with scores of 68.761% and 73.190%.

Samhitas is an 11 year old German-bred Oldenburger gelding by Sir Donnerhall out of Heidebluete (Abanos), and is joint-owned by Kelly Layne and Nori Maezawa. The horse was previously competed to Small Tour level by Endel Ots, before Kelly made her international Grand Prix debut with the gelding in a CDI3* at Tryon towards the end of 2019.

Their scores at the Adequan® Global Dressage Fall Festival are personal bests for the combination. Congratulations Kelly!

Back in 2016, Kelly was in contention for Olympic selection for Australia with her horse Udon P, however the pair had to withdraw their nomination when it was decided the horse wasn’t quite right and would not be fit in time. Their withdrawal ultimately meant Sue Hearn achieved an Olympic debut at age 60 with Remmington.

We look forward to following Kelly and Samhitas’ progress at future events!
