Aussie wins at NZ’s Horse of the Year Show

New Zealand’s ‘Land Rover Horse of the Year Show’ has been another huge success, with many fantastic results. The event was held from the 13th of March to the 18th, with over 1900 riders competing for various titles and prizes. The event was held at the beautiful Hawke’s Bay A & P Showgrounds in Hawkes Bay, Gisborne.

NSW rider Clint Beresford won the Silver Fern Stakes on Emmaville Jitterbug and led Australia to a considerable victory over New Zealand in the Trans-Tasman Senior Test. Stuart Jenkins, who is an EA jumping committee rider came third, who said ‘’It was a fantastic trip for all of us. We won the teams event finishing on a perfect score of zero. In the Silver Fern class, the first four placings were made up of Aussie based horses”.

The anticipated CIC3* eventing championships brought in a large crowd, with hundreds of spectators lining the cross country field to observe the thrilling event. Clarke Johnstone and Balmoral Sensation were successful in defending their title, with the pair making history in being the only horse and rider combination to win three eventing ‘Horse of The Year’ titles, having won 2014 and 2016 before that. Johnstone and Balmoral Sensation were also the champions of the 2017 CCI4* class at Australia’s International 3 Day Event with the pair making big strides in the eventing world.
