Aussies contest CDIO5* Nations Cup at CHIO Aachen

By Equestrian Life

Thursday at CHIO Aachen saw the CDIO5* Nations Cup get underway with the Grand Prix test, where Australia was represented by Simone Pearce and Fiderdance, Lyndal Oatley and Eros, and Mary Hanna riding Syriana.

Simone and Fiderdance scored 72.261% — their best GP score as a combination to date — to place 16th.  Lyndal Oatley and Eros scored 70.739% for 24th, while Mary Hanna and Syriana scored 67.457% for 34th. The Australian team is in eighth place after round one, with competition continuing Saturday in the CDIO5* Grand Prix Special.

Unfortunately Australia’s fourth team members, Warwick McLean and Hendrix II, had to withdraw following the first horse inspection.

Congratulations to all three combinations; the atmosphere within the Deutsche Bank Stadium at CHIO Aachen is akin to the biggest shows anywhere in the world, with many of the sport’s top competitors taking part. The class was won by Denmark’s Cathrine Dufour and Vamos Amigos on 81.544%, with Cathrine backing up her CDI4* GP win she had earlier, where she rode Bohemian to another 80%+ score. Second place went to Frederic Wandres and Duke of Britain FRH on 77.217%, while Finland’s Henri Ruoste was third riding Kontestro DB on 76.783%.

Team Denmark lead the Nations Cup, ahead of Germany and the Netherlands.
