Bengtsson misses the cut while Beerbaum eyes the lead in Lausanne

Championship leader Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (SWE) did not make the cut for the second round of the Longines Global Champions Tour of Lausanne Grand Prix after finishing on eight faults with Clarimo ASK. Other big names also crashed out of the 12th round of the 14-leg 2014 Championship - reigning Champion Scott Brash (GBR) with Hello Annie and No2 ranked Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) with Cantinero - clearing the way for another leaderboard shake-up in Lausanne this weekend.

After coming so close to another medal at last week’s World Championship, Ludger Beerbaum (GER), riding Chaman, came back with a bang this evening making Luc Musette’s tough first round course look simple where others had struggled. The German star is well within reach of the Longines Global Champions Tour Championship lead in 4th and he has been on fantastic form on the Tour of late with a Silver medal in London and Bronze in Valkenswaard.

Former Champ Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS) and Old Chap Tame also produced a stylish clear round to put pressure on the riders ranked above and below her. Qatar’s Bassem Hassan Mohammed, back with his Monaco Grand Prix -winning star mare Victoria, also finished on a zero score. But the Championship hopefuls will have hot competition on their hands from recent World Team Gold medallist Gerco Schröder (NED) with Cognac Champblanc and in-form Athina Onassis de Miranda (GRE) with AD Camille Z, who has been knocking on the door of a big result for a while.

The top 19 riders now go through to the 2nd round to battle once again with each other and with Musette’s demanding course. Watch the next round of the Longines Global Champions Tour of Lausanne Grand Prix live now on GCT TV, beIN Sports 9, Equidia Life, ClassHorseTV and on Eurosport.
