Queensland’s Billy Raymont and his 16 year old gelding Anton have won the CSI1*W World Cup Qualifier class at Waratah Showjumping.

With 21 combinations tackling the Michael Hease designed course at SIEC, competition was fierce. Billy and Anton showed their experience, emerging victorious as the only combination to complete both rounds clear of jumping penalties, adding just time penalties to their score. It’s been a stellar week for the combination, who also won the 1.45m World Cup Warm up class on Friday.

Having attended the 2018 World Cup Final in Paris with Oaks Redwood, who was subsequently sold to Bill Gates’ daughter Jennifer Gates, Billy is no stranger to success at this level and this weekend’s win augers well for the season ahead. As second placed Tom McDermott said at the prizegiving, Billy and Anton were simply “too good on the day, when his horse is on it’s really on!”.

Tom McDermott is showing consistent form this season with his exciting nine year old mare Elegance De La Chamille, having won the World Cup Qualifier at Gatton earlier this month. Kate Hinschen and Finch Farm Cadel finished third, while Chris Chugg continued his good form shown at Caboolture and Gatton World Cup Qualifiers to finish fourth with PSS Levilensky ahead of fifth placed Aaron Hadlow and Vahlinvader.

Earlier in the week, Brooke Campbell and Copabella Voltage took out the CSI1* class ahead of Tom Mcdermott and Carl Aus Pausin. The 1.40 class was the first in a two part spring series, with the second to be held next weekend at Sydney Showjumping Club Championships.
