Boyd Martin wins CCI4*L at Tryon International Three-Day Event

By Equestrian Life

Boyd Martin has won the CCI4*L at Tryon International Three-Day Event (North Carolina, USA) with Tsetserleg on an impressive score of 28.1. The pair added just 1.6 cross country time penalties to their dressage score over the two jumping phases.

Born and raised in Australia but having dual citizenship with his mother being American, Martin competed under the Aussie flag for many years before moving to America in 2007 and then switching to ride for the US in 2009.

Australian born Phillip Dutton, who began riding for the US in 2006, finished a close second with Z on 28.8.

US-based Aussie Olympian Clayton Fredericks had both FE Stormtrooper and FE Always In Time entered in the class, and achieved dressage scores of 30 and 34.2 respectively. However, Fredericks withdrew before the jumping phases.

“We wrapped up a lovely week at Tryon International today, ultimately choosing to save FE Stormtrooper and FE Always in Time for a run another day. Both horses are qualified for Tokyo 2020 and we’ll look forward to prepping them for an exciting future,” reads a post from Fredericks Equestrian International.

In the other international classes, the CCI4*S went to Jenny Caras and Trendy Fernhill, the CCI3*L went to William Coleman and Chin Tonic HS (with Boyd Martin second on Contessa), and the CCI2*L went to Elisabeth Halliday-Sharp and Cooley HHS Calmaria.
