Originating on the Arabian Peninsula, the Arabian is considered to be one of the oldest domestic horse breeds with archaeological evidence dating back more than 4,500 years.

With its distinctive dished head shape and high, extravagant tail carriage, it is one of the most recognisable breeds. The Arab has been used in the development of many other horse breeds, improving speed, refinement, endurance, and strong bone. Today, Arabian bloodlines can be found in most other breeds around the world.

Often high spirited, alert and sensitive, these horses are often not the best choice for beginners and need to be handled with competence and respect.

In the modern era, the breed is the leading choice for endurance racing, but also excels in the show ring. Across other disciplines, the Arab is often crossed with our breeds - for example, Arabian warmblood crosses excel in the dressage arena.
