Equestrian Australia overturns Para Dressage selection decision

Equestrian Australia has tonight overturned the controversial decision to not send a Para Dressage team to the FEI World Championships in Herning next month.

Via Equestrian Life’s live chat this evening, Chair of Equestrian Australia Mark Bradley revealed the decision would be overturned and a team of three riders will be sent to Herning.

“It was pretty apparent upfront that this was a very contentious decision… we’ve gone through the exercise of what our members would expect us to do, and while we absolutely back the job done by the volunteers in the selector roles and Chris (Webb) and his team administering the program, our board met tonight and we resolved to ask the selection panel and Chris to revisit and overturn the decision,” said Mr Bradley.

“I am pleased to advise… the three (qualified) riders have in fact been selected to represent Australia at the World Championships. I’d like to congratulate those in our community who stood up and made it very clear their views on the subject with all the right motivations.”

Three riders selected to head to Herning as a team are:

Dianne Barnes and Cil Dara Cosmic
Emma Booth and Furst Deluxe
Lisa Martin and Juicy Wiggle

Although it means there will be less federal government funding available come Paris 2024, Mr Bradley added that these three fully qualified riders will be funded.
