First Aussies take to the dressage arena at Aachen

By Equestrian Life

The first Australians have set foot on the Deutsche Bank Stadium at CHIO Aachen, with dressage riders Simone Pearce and Elliot Patterson both competing in the CDI4* classes.

Simone rode Royal and Proud in the CDI4* Prix St Georges competition, finishing in seventh place on a score of 70.530%. The mare is is just seven years of age and the partnership is still in its infancy, with it being only their second show together; Royal and Proud has competed at just five shows in total thus far in her career, so taking the big step up at CHIO Aachen was a huge achievement.

The CDI4* PSG was won by the USA’s Charlotte Jorst and Zhaplin Langholt on 71.647%, so the scores were close with the top seven all scoring over 70%.

Queensland rider Elliot Patterson contested the CDI4* Grand Prix with Emma Weel’s Santiago, finishing 21st on 65.196%. The atmosphere in the Deutsche Bank Stadium had Santiago a little on edge and hot, but Elliot did a wonderful job getting through the test; the pair have been together for just four months and have only had a couple of competitions since setting foot in Germany prior to Aachen. An amazing effort!

The class was won by Cathrine Dufour of Denmark riding Bohemian on 80.413%.
