Great Britain’s Ben Maher takes gold in Individual Jumping

By Equestrian Life

In an explosive night of Jumping, Great Britain’s Ben Maher and Explosion W have been crowned Olympic champions after taking out the Individual gold medal in Tokyo.

From the field of the best 30 in tonight’s Jumping Final, only 6 jumped cleared and made it through to the jump-off.

Those six riders were Great Britain’s Ben Maher, The Netherlands’ Maikel Van Der Vleuten, Japan’s Fukushima Daisuke, and all three Swedish riders Peder Fredricson, Henrik Von Eckermann, and Malin Baryard-Johnsson.

It was an edge-of-your-seat kind of jump-off, with all riders going clear and mere tenths of a second separating the top combinations as the horses and riders threw everything into the final round of Jumping.

With 45 seconds allowed for the jump-off, Ben Maher and Explosion W tore around the course to come in at 37.85 seconds to claim the gold.

Claiming the silver was Sweden’s Peder Fredricson and All In snapping at the Brit’s heels on 38.02 seconds.

And taking home the bronze was Dutch rider Maikel Van Der Vleuten and Beauville Z on 38.90 seconds.

Ben Maher’s victory means that Great Britain has won a medal in every Equestrian discipline at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, further cementing its reputation as a powerhouse on the international equestrian stage.
