International Mounted Games set to fire up the Hawkesbury

By Equestrian Life

Pony Club International Mounted Games is coming to the Hawkesbury this weekend, with Londonderry Pony Club hosting the fast-paced event.

Mounted Games is arguably the most thrilling equestrian discipline, with riders completing challenges at galloping speeds, testing their skill, accuracy, agility and teamwork.

The sport was the inspiration of HRH Prince Philip. In 1957, when Colonel Sir Mike Ansell was the Director of the Horse of the Year Show, Prince Philip asked permission to devise a competition for children who could not afford an expensive, well-bred pony. The first Mounted Games competition was held that year at the Horse of the Year Show in London, with teams competing for the Prince Philip Cup. It is perhaps a sport best seen to be believed!

“Londonderry Pony Club (the 2021 NSW and Australian Pony Club of the Year) has the absolute honour of hosting an international level event on Saturday 18 November, being the Pony Club International Mounted Games Competition,” says LPC Vice President Sharne Haskins. “Being a world class event, having it hosted so locally is a very rare occurrence, and Londonderry Pony Club are absolutely honoured to be providing our facilities for these elite riders.”

LPC would love to share this incredible event with the local equine community to make sure the Australian riders have the best home ground advantage with a roaring crowd to cheer them on. If you’re in the area, be sure to head on down this Saturday to join in the action!
