Isabel English claims first international win on UK soil at Cornbury House Horse Trials

By Equestrian Life

Australian eventer Isabel English has enjoyed her first international win on UK soil, taking out the CCI2*S (Section D) at Cornbury House Horse Trials with Cil Dara Dallas on a dressage score of 27.3.

“Dallas was bred by my parents in Australia and brought over with the hope to produce and compete him. I’ve enjoyed the process and [this win] was a real highlight of his career so far!” said Isabel.

Isabel recently retired her long time partner Feldale Mouse, a horse she took from Pony Club in Australia to competing at prestigious events around Europe, such as the Nations Cup at CHIO Aachen in 2019.

Fellow Australian Sammi Birch also enjoyed success at Cornbury House Horse Trials, finishing fourth with Calcourt Verona in the Elite CCI3*-S class. The pair completed the competition with a score of 32.00, adding only 2 cross country time penalties to their dressage score of 30.

Reserved for riders ranked in the top 200 in the world, the Elite class was hotly contested, with many big names in action. Up-and-coming British rider Tom Jackson won the class riding Capels Hollow Drift (26.4). Second was another exciting young British rider, Bubby Upton, who only very recently returned to competition after breaking her back earlier in the summer. She added nothing in the jumping phases to her dressage mark of 29.9, while Phoebe Locke was third on Pica D’Or with 31.6.

The three members of Britain’s gold medal-winning eventing team at the Tokyo Olympics - Oliver Townend, Tom McEwen and Laura Collett - also finished in the top 10 on promising young horses.

There were a number of other Australians in action at Cornbury House Horse Trials, with Kevin McNab and Sam Griffiths also contesting the CCI3*S class. Kevin finished 20th with Scuderia 1918 A Best Friend on 50.1, 21st on Glenorchy with 53.3, and 24th with Cute Girl on 58.2. All three horses were clear of jumping penalties in the cross country and showjumping phases, apart from Cute Girl with just one rail down. Sam Griffiths finished 29th with Monbeg Whisper on 78.5.

Bill Levett was fourth in the CCI2*S (Section C) with Shannondale Archie, finishing on his dressage score of 28.3.
