Isabell Werth retires world number one Bella Rose

By Equestrian Life

Following their team gold medal and individual silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Isabell Werth has revealed that Bella Rose 2 will be retired.

The 17 year old mare has had a career filled with both ups and downs.

She and Isabell competed at the 2014 World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Normandy, where they finished second behind Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro in the Grand Prix. However, the then ten year old was withdraw from the rest of WEG due to an injury; she then spent the next four years away from the sport.

In 2018, Bella Rose made a triumphant return and was crowned team and individual champion at the WEG in Tryon, before repeating the feat at the 2019 European Championships.

At Tokyo, the mare scored 82.5% to win her Group in the Grand Prix, before posting 83.298% as part of Germany’s gold medal winning team. In the individual Freestyle final, they claimed the silver medal behind Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and TSF Dalera, scoring 95.89% for the artistic score and 83.43% as the technical mark for a final score of 89.66%.
