Will Germany's stars dominate once more in Spain?

Spanish fans will be treated to star-studded entertainment this weekend when Jumping and Dressage stars head to Madrid.

Swiss aces Martin Fuchs and Steve Guerdat are on the start list for the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ leg, as is French pairing Simon Delestre & Hermes Ryan, who won the most recent event in Verona.

We can also look forward to seeing Max Kuhner, Pieter Devos and Kevin Staut in action in front of the FEI TV cameras on Sunday.

Many will also be excited to see Maikel van der Vleuten & Beauville Z, who finished fifth in Madrid last time out before sensationally winning in La Coruna soon after. They won bronze at Tokyo 2020, helped the Netherlands to Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final glory in Barcelona last month and were in top form last weekend too, winning twice in Prague.

The home fans at the at the IFEMA - Feria de Madrid will enjoy getting behind their biggest stars Eduardo Alvarez Aznar and Sergio Alvarez Moya as top-class Jumping action returns to Spain’s capital city for the first time in two years.

However, it is Germany who have dominated since a Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ leg was first held at Madrid Horse Week in 2014. They have won four of the six editions of the event thanks to two triumphs for Marcus Ehning and single victories for Daniel Deusser and Christian Ahlmann.

Deusser, Ehning and compatriots Gerrit Nieberg and David Will are on the start list this weekend.

Germany’s Ehning & Pret A Tout won in Madrid last time out in 2019, with Ahlmann and Belgium’s Devos also on the podium.

Nine partnerships made the jump-off back then, having steered designer Javier Trenor’s 12-fence course that demanded accuracy around a succession of roll-backs, dog-legs and tight turns in a small arena. Trenor’s jump-off course featured two exceptionally long runs where raw speed came out on top.
