The 2019 NSW Dressage Championships are underway at AELEC in Tamworth, with many of the state’s top riders in action – as well as more than a few from other parts of the country!

Competition commenced Wednesday, with many classes already run and won. The event continues across the weekend until Sunday.

Here are some of the winners and grinners to date…

The Pony Preliminary Championship 1B went to Jacqueline Huppert and Cognac Diamond on a huge score of 78.036%, nearly 10% ahead of the second placegetter. The pair also won the Pony Novice Championship 2B test on 71.029%. In the  Prelim 1C, it was a different story with Justin Worthy and Freemans Lodge Denim N Lace taking out the class on 69.018%. Justin also won the Pony Novice 2C with Dainty Dancer BHI on 70.214%.

The Advanced classes have also been run and won. The Open Advanced Championship 5B went to Katina Smith and BC Sangria on 68.311%, while the Open Advanced Championship 5C went to Jenny Gehrke and Lord Kingsley on 70.357%. Tayla Gilmore and Sambics Hit won the AOR Advanced Championship 5B on 67.838%, while Holly Barnes and Rosabella R scored 69.214% to win the AOR Advanced Championship 5C.

The FEI classes have also begun at AELEC. The FEI Inter A went to Lizzie Wilson-Fellows and Lets Jazzabit on a great score of 70.049%, while Riley Alexander and Larenso won the FEI Inter B on a score of 69.042%. Always an exciting class, the Open FEI Prix St Georges was hotly contested. Riley Alexander and MI Sirtainly Sir won on a score of 70.588%, just pipping Alexis Hellyer and Bluefields Doris Day on 70.441%. The AOR FEI Prix St Georges went to Helen Macaskill and F1 Sonny Bill on 66.618%, while the Pony FEI Prix St Georges was won by Justin Worthy and Glengannon Artorious with 62.255%.

To the Medium classes, and it was a close battle between two impressive horses in the Open Medium Championship 4B. Gina Montgomery and Braveaux won on 72.432%, while Madeline Leeden and Flowervale Ferrentino were second on 72.162%. In the 4C it was a slightly different story, with Jenny Gehrke and Lord Kingsley taking out the class on 71.026% from Brett Parbery and the Willinga Park-owned Bloomfield Royalist on 70.128%. Gina and the stunning black Braveaux, who have been very successful in Young Horse classes, were third. In the AOR 4B and 4C, Jeffrey Adams and Baby Blue took first place with 70.608% and 68.205% respectively.

The Para Equestrian classes have also been running the past two days, with riders contesting the Team and Individual tests. Ryan McNeil and Paragon Perry won both the Grade I classes, scoring 58.393% in the Team Test and 52.411% in the Individual Test. In the Grade III, Dale Johnston and TEC Macedon were successful, scoring 62.279% to win the Team Test and 60.074% to win the Individual Test. Karen Lever won both Grade V tests with Cayuse in a Flash, scoring 63.314% in the Team Test and 61.310% in the Individual Test.
