Hendra virus is a potentially deadly viral disease that can be spread from horse to horse – and from horses to humans. There’s no known cure for Hendra but your vet has a vaccine that can help prevent it.

Why protect against Hendra?

Hendra virus disease is a known killer in Australia – of people as well as horses.1 And it’s spreading.1–2

Fruit bats (flying foxes) are the natural hosts of Hendra virus,1 and it’s thought that the virus is transmitted from fruit bat to horses via feed contaminated with fruit bat urine, faeces or body fluids.3 Hendra virus can be spread from horse to horse and horse to human through close contact with respiratory secretions and/or blood from an infected horse, so you may be at risk as much as your horse. 3 Why risk it?

Why now?

More than 70% of Hendra virus cases occur between May and August so now is the perfect time to protect your horse.

And there’s one more reason to act now. From now until July 31, all new horses vaccinated will receive the 2nd dose of Hendra vaccine free. All you have to pay for with the second dose is your vet’s consultation fee and/or travel costs. Simple – and more affordable than ever.

What about horses already vaccinated?

If your horse has already been vaccinated, congratulations for taking steps to protect against this deadly virus. You will receive a free tube of Equest® Plus Tape for worming, valued at approximately $20, when your horse receives its six-month booster from participating vets from now until July 31.

Why risk Hendra? Talk to your vet today about vaccination and the free 2nd dose offer.
