German stallion owner Paul Schockemöhle has offered to pay 10,000 euros to any breeder who has lost a foal to Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome (WFFS) sired by any of his stallions, after seven of his 52 stallions tested positive as carriers of the fatal disease.

A segment about WFFS was added to the stud's 2019 German breeding conditions, which stats that Paul Schockemöhle is willing to pay 10,000 euros to any breeder who has lost a foal to Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome that was sired by any of his stallions, providing that they could prove this accusation with scientifically proven evidence from an equine university clinic. Schockemöhle believes that the probability of this is so negligibly small that he is willing to commit to this promise.

As of the 1st of January 2019, Warmblood breeders will need to post the results from the WFFS tests on their website. Stallions that test positive as carriers of WFFS will be allowed to continue to breed, however it will need to be made clear to potential buyers that the stallion is a carrier of the syndrome.

More information about WFFS and the various stallions owned by Paul Schockemöhle that carry the disease can be found in a previous EQ Life article.
