Australia's top equestrians in Toowoomba

Pony club - labelled for resuse

Riders will take part in events including Dressage, Show Jumping, Eventing, Mounted Games, Tetrathlon; Formal Gymkhana and Quiz.

Australia’s top young equestrians will converge on the Toowoomba Showgrounds in September. From 18th to 22nd of September, Toowoomba will be host to the Pony Club Australia National Championships. This event is the most prestigious on the pony club calendar and is only held once every two years.

Riders will compete across five days in Dressage, Show Jumping, Eventing, Tetrathlon, Formal Gymkhana, Mounted Games, and Quiz. These disciplines will attract riders from every corner of the country. Rigorous selection processes have been used for each state to select their team.

Pony Club Queensland had the honour of hosting this event in Toowoomba in 2007, ten years later, it’s great to see the event return. Queensland riders have travelled across the country to compete in this event, so having it in their backyard is a welcome turn of events.

One of Queensland’s top young riders, Cameron Moffatt described his relationship with Nationals. “To me, the PCA Nationals is one of the highest level of competition in pony club, to be able to go to nationals and wear the Queensland uniform and compete against the best riders in the state is a huge honour. You make long-lasting friendships with (competitors) from other states and you make unforgettable memories.”

To top it off, Moffatt also commented on what it means to have Nationals in Queensland, “Nationals being in Queensland means that a lot of riders will be trying to get in which will make the competitions in Queensland (in the lead up) bigger and more competitive which is great for pony club.”

Having an event of this calibre in Queensland is a boost for all disciplines and further to that, it is a boost for sport generally.
