It is with great sadness that we heard from Heelan Tompkins today she had to say goodbye to her beloved horse, Glengarrick (known as Nugget).

Nugget was one of our kiwi eventing legend horses. At the Athens Olympics in 2004, he was the oldest horse competing there aged 18, and he and Heelan were the best of the kiwi combinations, finishing in 7th place. They went on to also finish in 7th in the World Equestrian Games in Aachen.

Other notable results included winning the 2005 Puhinui CCI***, in 2002 at Boekelo they were second in the CCIO*** and had two good placings at Chatsworth, 5th in 2002 and 10th in 2004.

Nugget enjoyed a long retirement in New Zealand after his international campaigns and will be missed by his many friends and fans.

Our commiserations to Heelan and other connections of this truly wonderful horse.

The photos are from the 2004 Athens Olympics.  As well as Heelan, the photos also feature Nugget's groom from the event, Jacky Green (who provides reports from the UK on our High Performance squad) and the Eventing Coach, Sir Mark Todd.
