He has won three gold medals and been to more Olympics than any other Australian.

But equestrian legend Andrew Hoy is showing no signs of slowing down.

"I bought a stallion the other day. He could be good for 2024," the 57-year-old says, slightly tongue in cheek.

You would be a fool to put it past him.

As he strives for his eighth Olympics, Hoy is in the saddle for about six hours a day and is confident Australia's three-day equestrian team can push for a place on the podium in Rio.

"Definitely silver or bronze is doable," he says.

"The Germans are just very strong at the moment. We are all going to have to produce personal bests to take gold."

Hoy will find out this weekend if he will make the team for the 2016 games.

Los Angeles in 1984 was Andrew Hoy's first Olympics and in Barcelona he tasted team gold for the first time.

In Atlanta, Australia won again and he carried the flag, while in Sydney Hoy picked up an individual silver as the team won a third three-day event in a row.

"Gold in Sydney was a career highlight definitely," he says looking at his medals.
