Roger Fitzhardinge's exclusive interview with Lone Jorgensen

Lone Jorgensen 1

Lone Jorgensen is to move from her homeland of Denmark to Australia as early as by the end of this year and will settle on the Mornington Penninsula with her husband Ulli Eggers.

Lone is already a part of Australian dressage and we see her at so many big competitions here warming up and coaching a myriad of her pupils as she has been coming here very regularly for many years and teaches so much from the wonderful Boneo Park home of Fiona McNaught. Lone has such an easy going character and really fits in with the Aussie culture yet brings a wise, confident and steely determination to her coaching and towards her students. She is very serious about her sport and it shines through in her passion and love of her equine partners and loves nothing more than to see her students improving their scores and riding in the competition arena. She is as much at home coaching as she is in the saddle winning Grand Prix tests internationally.

Probably the horse that made the biggest mark for Lone, was Kennedy FBW, a wonderful bright chestnut with striking white stockings and such an expressive mover. He was bought as a young horse and trained through the levels to Grand Prix with huge success but as life, and horses goes, was subsequently sold to the USA where he continued to be admired and successful with Robert Dover.

It was not long before Lone had made it on to the Danish team again with the Oldenberger gelding Ludewig G. This leggy horse was stunning but he was a hot horse which sometimes got in the way of some super performances, needless to say they produced some truly amazing tests and results before he was sold on to Brazil.

It was not long before Lone had another star in Donna Asana, by the famous Don Schufro.  Lone had an amazing 2008 Olympic year on this mare but decided not to take her to the games in Hong Kong and was subsequently sold in 2009 to Eveleyn Haim-Swarovski. Unfortunately the mare tragically died in 2010 from an allergic reaction.

Of course now it is De Vito FBW and what a wonderful horse he is and by De Niro, he has made a huge mark in a small amount of time and competed at the World Cup Final at S’Hertogenbosh in April this year

There is no doubt that Lone is going to be an absolute asset to dressage in Australia and with her wonderful knowledge and ability to impart this, comes a wonderfully passionate and fun loving character who always finds the best things in people, horses and life.

I asked Lone a few questions about her approaching move.

What is the incentive to pack up and leave Denmark where you have made such a name for yourself as a serious Dressage competitor and coach to come down under?

Yes it is all very exciting :-))

Already back in 2000 at the Olympics in Sydney Ulli and I agreed that if we ever would emigrate to somewhere it will be Australia .

We were both very impressed by the country and the people living there, but of course things take time and we first wanted to establish our names in the international Grand Prix Sport which is easier to do in Europe as there are a Lot higher numbers of Shows , competitors , judges and so on.

We now thought the time has come to move on, not only because we get older :-)) but also we want to concentrate more on pupils and teaching, and we both think that Australia is one of the most upcoming countries in our sport.

Have you found a property and where would that be?

We are Looking for a property on the Mornington Peninsula and might have found one already!

Will you be bringing horses with you?

We will bring about 4 horses, One jumping Horse of our daughter, 2 Three year old mares we bought as foals and a 7 y old Mare we have had since she was 4 y old.

Do you intend starting a training and agistment facility here?

We will have a little equestrian property for us, not really having agistment horses, only riders which might come for some days or some weeks to train.

The Plan is to be in Australia at the end of this Year , if it all works out as we want it to

:-)

What do you think you will miss out here that you had in Denmark?

I Hope we won’t be missing anything too much ;-) I think we can find it all in Australia .

Well time will tell what we like the most, but I Hope to get the chance to continue to work with good riders and talented horses as already done at Boneo Park and in Perth.

Do you think you will become a Dinkum Aussie?

Becoming a real Aussie will probably take some time :-) but we will work on it.

You have now got the First official Interview from us about our Emigration to Australia :-))))

Lone

It’s an exciting step for Lone and Ulli and I am sure an exciting step for our sport in Australia as well. The EQ Life Team would like to wish them all the very best in a safe and untroubled move and look forward to seeing you soon and thank you for your time in imparting this great news.
