Roger Yves Bost added yet another major prize to his ever-growing collection thanks to a cool ride and a fast horse in Castleforbes Talitha as the Frenchman claimed the DBS Trophy on the final day of the Longines Masters of Hong Kong.

The Olympic gold medallist admitted he had pretty much avoided looking at the leaderboard before heading out as number 14 of the 22 starters in this one-round, against-the-clock scramble. Instead the focus was all about the 12-year-old mare beneath him and the 1.45m fences in front of him.

The concentration was rewarded with a time of 57.35, to edge out Belgium’s Pieter Clemens on Caldero (58.11) with Frenchman Patrice Delaveau and Vestale de Mazure HDC (59.18) filling third.

“She was feeling good yesterday and I made sure we prepared well,” the winner said afterwards. “I tried not to look at the board but I knew there would be some fast times. The field is strong but we got off to a good start, we picked up a stride early and then she kept the pace up.”
