Hartpury Horse Trials (UK)

The CCI4*-S at Hartpury Horse Trials has now concluded, with the showjumping and cross country taking place overnight.

Kevin McNab finishing the best of the Aussies with Scuderia 1918 A Best Friend. The pair were clear in the showjumping with just 0.4 time penalties, and were also clear in the cross country and accrued just 4 time penalties. Added to their dressage score of 33.3, they finished on on 37.7 for 8th place in a field of more than a 100 combinations.

Kevin also finished in 11th place in Scuderia Don Quidam. The pair produced a personal best dressage score earlier in the competition, jumped clear in the showjumping, and picked up just 3.6 time penalties on the cross country. Unfortunately they also picked up 11 penalties for activation of a frangible pin, for a final score of 40. Without that 11 penalties, they could have finished as high as second place.

"It was an ‘almost’ finish today at Hartpury. Both boys jumped fantastic clear SJ rounds. A Best Friend was super XC, jumping clear with a few time which moved him up to 8th. Then Don Quidam was fantastic XC but bumped the 2nd last which resulted in a frangible pin… such a shame as he had jumped and travelled beautifully so ended up finishing a respectable 11th in the class of 103!! Not quite the same as the 2nd place he would have been in without the pin but not meant to be this time..." - McNab Eventing Facebok post.

Christine Bates and Adelaide Hill were 48th on 68.3 after dropping a rail in the the jumping and picking up both time penalties and 20 penalties on the cross country. Thea Horsley and Kelecyn Supernatural were 50th on 70.5. They had three rails down in the showjumping and 1.6 time penalties, and then jumped clear cross country although again some time penalties.

A great effort by the Aussie contingent in a big field!

Piggy French and Quarrycrest Echo won the event, finishing on their dressage score of 26.6; they were only the combination to do so, as no other combinations made time on cross country. Piggy also finished second with Brookfield Inocent on 30.4.
