VIDEO: WA winery chooses workhorses over tractors

A Great Southern winery in Western Australia is turning back the clock, using Clydesdales instead of tractors on their vineyards.

 

Harewood Estate viticulturalist and horseman Doug York has been using the horses on his own small scale vineyard for about 10 years.

 

Now, he has employed the pair as full-time workhorses on the 30 hectare vineyard and winery in Denmark.

 

Mr York said he believed they were the only people to be doing it in Australia.

 

He said horses provided significant benefits when it came to soil compaction at the winery.
