MEDIA RELEASE:
World-class equestrian retreat goes under the hammer
Former Ladbrokes CEO and Managing Director of Neds, Dean Shannon is selling what would have to be one of Australia’s finest horse properties — Montana Park — which will go to auction in Maleny on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on 29 July.
Being only the second owner and having enjoyed the property for a number of years, Shannon is ready to farewell the 42.23 hectare luxury property that is perfectly set up for a range of equestrian pursuits.
Listing agent Lew Pottinger from Ray White Buderim said the property had already piqued the interest of a number of buyers looking to combine the benefits of rural living with all the Sunshine Coast has to offer.
“It’s rather unique to find a luxury property such as this, in one of Australia’s most popular tourism destinations and high growth regions — Montana Park offers the ultimate rural lifestyle, while still being within easy reach of the spectacular Sunshine Coast beaches and vibrant hotspots,” Mr Pottinger said.
The property boasts a commanding luxurious homestead, a stable complex including an instructor’s suite and three-bedroom guest’s living quarters as well as a separate four-bedroom manager’s residence.
The equestrian complex also includes two Olympic dressage or show-jumping arenas — one of which is under cover with lights —12 extra-large stables, tack rooms, a six-horse walker and 45 individual paddocks, while the eight mega-litre dam virtually drought-proofs the property. The appeal of the property is enhanced by the solid post and rail fencing used extensively to frame the individual paddocks and the property’s entirety.
“This world-class property is perfect not just for the horse enthusiast, but for the business person looking to fulfil a lifelong passion for almost any equestrian discipline,” Mr Pottinger said.
“It has everything a breeder or trainer would require and for those who are passionate about dressage or show jumping, the facilities are first class and also allow for camps and teaching clinics.”
“The impressive homestead has a media room, commercial-grade kitchen with large walk-in pantry, gymnasium, fireplace and resort-style swimming pool. While currently being used as a four-bedroom home, Montana Park has been cleverly designed with flexibility in mind and could easily accommodate six large bedrooms in a variety of configurations.”
“The Versace-inspired master bedroom and retreat incorporates five-star luxury with his and hers ensuites, a steam and massage room and opulent dressing rooms. An elegant, private lounge offers one of the most spectacular views in the house from the deck overlooking the meticulously maintained paddocks and lush rolling hinterland hills.”
Five minutes away from Montana Park is the picturesque, hinterland community of Maleny which has embraced the café and micro-brewery culture, resulting in a thriving town that is attracting entrepreneurs from all over the world.
“This really is a location that has it all. From the quaint township on your doorstep crammed with fresh food producers and good coffees, to world-class dining options like The Long Apron at Spicers Clovelly or The Tamarind. Add to that the pristine beaches, surf breaks, tourism hotspots like Mooloolaba and Noosa on the coast and easy access to one of Queensland’s premier racecourses Corbould Park, you don’t really get much better.”
“With Brisbane an hour to the south and the Sunshine Coast airport — which will offer international flights in 2020 — 40 minutes north, you can now work interstate but enjoy the lifestyle only found on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.”
The property was originally a dairy farm before being bought by the Courtice family in 2006 for horses to spell, train, prepare and foal. They built the impressive homestead and an impressive range of equestrian facilities before selling to Mr Shannon in 2010.
Extensive renovations were then undertaken with the residence doubling in size to over 1,800sqm, the addition of a roof over one of the Olympic arenas and considerable improvements including adding bitumen and landscaping, upgrading all the hydraulics and improving all staff and guest accommodation.
Mr Shannon and his wife bred and raised many horses on the property as well as spelling their own race horses, and have developed Montana Park to cater for a broad range of equestrian pursuits.
Montana Park will go to auction onsite at 11am on Sunday, 29 July.
