Bill Levett wins Montelibretti CCI4*L with Sligo Candy Cane

Australian eventer Bill Levett has enjoyed success early on in the 2024 European eventing season with a win in the CCI4*L at Montelibretti in Italy (14-17 March).

Bill and Sligo Candy Cane were second after the dressage on 31.8, and then added just time penalties in the jumping phases to finish on 43 penalties. It is the pair’s first win at international level together.

Sligo Candy Cane is a 10-year-old chestnut Irish Sport Horse, by Sligo Candy Boy out of Castlemly Lass (Visa Aldatus Z), and is owned by Elisabeth Murdoch and Keith Tyson. Bill and the gelding previously competed at Montelibretti earlier this month in the CCI3*S where they cruised around for sixth place on 37.

The event also hosted a CCIO4*S Nations Cup class, won by France’s Benjamin Massie and Figaro Fonroy on 39.4.Bill Levett was the highest placed Australian in the class, finishing 15th with five-star horse Huberthus AC on 51 – adding just time faults to their dressage score.

Bill was also second in the CCI2*S with Monbeg Spot On (32).
