Exclusive: The Future of Horse Comfort has Arrived

Industry leaders Leader Equine have today announced the official launch of their very own Boxter rug range.

Following years of innovation and product testing by the team’s experts, the highly anticipated collection has delivered an industry-first in horse comfort and welfare. 

We had the opportunity to catch up with the Leader Equine Team for our April issue and learn more about the design of the range.

"There's so much to be said about how we care for our horses," says Sarah Jane Colhoun, General Manager at Leader Equine. "That's why we've poured our hearts and souls into developing a rug range that puts their wellbeing first."

The Difference

The Boxter range features two patented innovations that set it apart from competitors. 

LE Boxter Dart

“It's the reverse of what we see in a typical rug. We undertook research into how horses move, how the scapula moves… the horse’s scapula actually rotates. So to accommodate this we used a box dart that sits directly over the front leg, creating a wide pleat at the top that opens and closes as the scapula rotates.”

LE Field Safe Front Closure

The second design-protected feature is the LE Field Safe Front Closure. “It is a three-step, fail-safe front closure. There's a bib on the inside so that everything against the horse’s chest is protected. The next step is the double straight front closure surcingle clips for security, and then over the top is an overlocking double velcro. The outside of the rug is extremely smooth, minimising the chance of it catching on hay nets or fencing.”

The visionaries

The Boxter rug range has been two years in the making, however the knowledge behind its innovation has far deeper roots. Started in the 1950s, Leader Equine has been leading design practices for many years. “The Boxter rug range continues the family legacy of real innovation and design for purpose.”
