Molly Lines & Tadpole win Wandin CCI4*S

By Equestrian Life

Nineteen-year-old Molly Lines and off the track Thoroughbred Tadpole have won the CCI4*S at Wandin International Horse Trials, jumping clear in both phases to add only time faults to their dressage score.

Third after the dressage on 34.3, the pair added just 4.4 cross country time faults and 2.8 show jumping time faults to finish on 41.5, ahead of Sam Cesnik and Graftango on 53.6, and David Middleton with WEC In The Money on 54.8.

Molly was just 13 and hadn’t competed beyond EvA80 level when she purchased six-year-old off-the-track Thoroughbred Tadpole from show jumper Hayley Coman. Far from a star racehorse, Tadpole – who raced as Liquid Courage (Teofilo x Remy) – collected all of $1200 during his five-start career. He’d had a super introduction to his post-racing career thanks to Hayley but was yet to set foot on a cross country course or compete in the dressage arena. Molly’s original plan was to train him up and move him on after a couple of years, yet their partnership went from strength to strength, and they are still together – Wandin marks their second international-level four-star win, having won the CCI4*S at Ballarat in May last year.

The pair only recently returned from New Zealand, where they were part of Australia’s Oceania Challenge Junior Team and finished third individually in the CCI3*S as the highest placed Aussie combination.

You can read more about Molly and Tadpole in the June 2023 issue of Equestrian Life.

In the other FEI classes at Wandin, the CCI3*S was won by another off the track Thoroughbred, Seattle Park, ridden by Sophia Hill. The pair scored 42.8. In the CCI2*S, Natalie Davies and Camilla Elmare claimed the win on 32.4, while in the CCI2*S OTT division, Jennifer Duffy and Notre Amour won on 30.7.
