Chautauqua’s return to the racetrack, albeit as a special guest, has been delayed.

The former star sprinter, who is now being trained as a show horse, had been slated to lead out the field for next month’s Bendigo Cup but has experienced a setback in preparations.

“We regret to announce that after a minor setback in his show horse training, Chautauqua will not be able to appear at this year’s Jayco Bendigo Cup,” the Bendigo Jockey Club announced via social media.

“Thankfully, the might grey has recuperated well, but connections believe it is in the horse’s best interests to not return to a racecourse just yet,””

Chautauqua’s place on Bendigo Cup Day - Wednesday, October 30 - will now be taken by fellow grey, Efficient, winner of the 2007 Melbourne Cup.
