Equestrian High Performance Weekly Update – 3rd August, 2020

As the ever-evolving Covid-19 pandemic continues to impact the way our sport takes place around the globe we continue to work closely with all of our high performance riders to ensure they are supported and equipped to progress with their journey in these unprecedented times. Our riders are spread across the world and find themselves dealing with different levels of restrictions relating to training and competition.

This past week we have seen many of our UK based riders attending events using the opportunity of resumed competition to take out not only their potential Tokyo 2020 horses but also their next string of future champions. Likewise in Europe and the USA FEI competition continues to give our rides the opportunity to once again enter the competition arena and work towards achieving their Olympic goals.

Domestically we have seen dramatic changes with Victoria now enforcing stage 4 restrictions. We understand this has had a significant impact on our riders based within the State who were hoping to resume competition in the near future. We offer our squad riders our ongoing support and are working with them to re-evaluate their planning and address any concerns they may have about their Tokyo preparations. Our riders based in other Australian States continue to progress with their individual performance planning with many taking advantage of recent training opportunities off property.

The Equestrian High Performance Team have been working on the Program’s strategic plan that will carry us through from Tokyo 2020 to Paris 2024. The detailed plan will focus on our performance drivers and outline a clear, robust and comprehensive map to achieve our podium objectives at not only the Olympic and Paralympic Games but also at the World Equestrian Games in 2022.

Our lines of communication with the FEI, Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), Paralympics Australia (PA) and the Australian Institute of Sport remain open as we continue to engage in productive conversation and work together to move forward in the best interest of Australian equestrian sport. This includes continued consultation surrounding details of the Tokyo 2020 Selection Policies, which we will share as soon as they have gone through due process with the AOC and PA.

As always the health and safety of our people and horses remain our highest priority as we work together as a united high performance community to navigate these unprecedented times.
