The 2018 MUSTAD HRCAV TTT Combined Training has been run and won, with a composite team from Biddlesden Park/Kyneton taking out the main prize. The team comprised of Brett Gooding and Karimbah Clip Clop (Kyneton) in section 4C, Karen Skinner and Karimbah Danze Delight (Kyneton) in section 4C, Molly Farran (Biddlesden Park) and Miss Piggy in the 5A, and Lauren Pearson (Biddlesden Park) riding Grey Mist in section 4A.

Brett won section 4C with a terrific penalty score of 35.90, while Karen finished a close third in the same class on 37.85. Brett and Karen were both on young, inexperienced horses — Karimbah Danze Delight and Karimbah Clip Clop both handled the big event incredibly well despite trying weather conditions and it was lovely to see two very relaxed and happy horses at the presentations! Karen explained that they’d only just joined the HRCAV circuit after recently moving from NSW, and she was blown away with the level or organisation (and also the prizes!) offered at HRCAV TTT events.

Biddlesden Park Equestrian Club combination Molly Farran and Miss Piggy won section 5A with a score of 37.80, while Lauren Pearson and Grey Mist finished 13th in section 4A. With 5A and 4A being Saturday classes, unfortunately Molly and Lauren missed Sunday afternoon’s presentation but will no doubt enjoy their prizes (of which there were many thanks to the event’s very generous sponsors!). Molly and Miss Piggy also won the Best Performed Welsh Pony or Cob (purebred) award. For those who might be wondering, Molly and Lauren’s club — Biddlesden Park Equestrian Club — is located in Seville (Yarra Valley region).

This year, the TTT Combined Training event was hosted by Lancefield Equestrian Group (LEG) and saw well over 200 riders compete over two days. LEG produced last year’s winning Combined Training team and therefore obtained the right to host the event in 2018. Held at LEG’s home ground at Lancefield Park, competitors flocked from across Victoria with riders coming from as far as Echuca, Warrnambool, Sale and NSW Gerogery.

The Lancefield Recreation Reserve is also home to Lancefield Light Harness Club and includes a training trotting track. In preparation for the TTT Combined Training event, LEG was fortunate to receive funding for new arenas from The Bendigo Community Bank and NEWEARTH who constructed the arenas inside the centre of the trotting track — these were used for the showjumping phase of the event.

LEG did a fantastic job organising this year’s TTT Combined Training and the event ran smoothly despite some challenging weather conditions. Organising TTT events in no mean feat — with large numbers of entries to co-ordinate it really does take a concerted effort from the host club and LEG should be congratulated for running such a great weekend of competition Major sponsors for the event included MUSTAD Saddleworld, Horseware and Barastoc (who donated a bag of feed to all riders from teams placed first to fifth
— these also doubled as jump wing supports when the storm rolled through on Sunday!)
