The Modern Pentathlon Australia Championships took place recently in Queensland, with many Pony Club competitors taking part.

It was a great result for the Wade brothers from Stratford PC in Victoria, with Darcy winning gold in the Junior men’s and Cohen silver in the under 17 years tetrathlon. Darcy has been competing in modern pentathlon and tetrathlon for a couple of years and had been very successful. A keen and talented showjumper, Darcy is also starting to make a name for himself on the open EA circuit.

You can read more about Darcy Wade's path from Pony Club to international competition in the latest issue of EQ Life.

In the Open women's events, it was a clean sweep for Pony Club with Tully Watt (Emu Park PC in Victoria) the winner from Nakita Mawhirt in second (Swan Valley PC in WA) and Victoria Squire third (WA).

In the Open men's, Rhys Lanskey from Redlands PC in Queensland was the clear winner with a great showjumping round. Like Tully, he is only 17 years old competing in the adult class!

It was also clean sweep for Pony Club WA in the Junior women’s class, with Katie Nicholls (Swan Valley HPC) first, Brooke Bishop (Dardanup) second and Siobhan Nicholls (Swan Valley HPC) third.

There were 34 competitors across all of the age groups, and it’s believed more than half were pony clubbers! Pony Club Australia should have a great international tetrathlon team in 2020 and hot competition in this event at the PCA Nationals in October 2019.

Congratulations to all the Pony Club members on their great success at the Modern Pentathlon Australia Championships!
