Team Joyce Expecting Oaks Volta’s First Foals

By Trish Joyce

Team Joyce love Christmas time like so many. Why? Well it’s definitely the time to celebrate with family but more excitably we are expecting Oaks Volta’s very first foals. What will they look like, will they all be healthy and will they grow up to be good quality horses? There is so much to think and worry about during the next three months. So many often say what will be, will be. It’s nature and it will all be fine. How much preparation shall we undertake before the day arrives? Team Joyce will bring the three mares close to the house in a flat paddock because we are situated on undulating hills here. Two of the mares are maiden and another one is much older and has had many foals. The first is due around Christmas time so stay tuned and check out our Lals Haven web page and Facebook page to get the very first glimpses of Oaks Volta’s progeny.

Team Joyce are going to re-join these three mares and put them to Oaks Volta again. We do all the breeding ourselves here at home in the breeding barn, which Wes constructed all on his own. We have a dummy, crush and two stables all set up under cover. We scan the mares, collect from Volta and inseminate, then wait patiently for the 18 day scan to hopefully see a positive pregnancy. It is quite an episode - Wes and I looking at the screen and asking each other “What do you see?! Is she in foal of not?”. So far we have already successfully inseminated three mares for next season and still working on two others.

All our mares are looking fabulous because they have been fed Breed and Grow right from the start. If you want the ultimate full feed pellet for broodmares, from conception through to gestation and into the first few years of growth, Barastoc Breed and Grow will give your horses the best chance through sound nutrition. This highly palatable pelleted feed leaves no powders or waste and is ideal for paddock feeding. If you wish to know how much you should feed your broodmare click here and find out how much you should give. Or, if you have a horse in work, ask Barastoc what type of Barastoc feed is appropriate. All your questions can now be answered very easily online with the brand new interaction web page. Check it out - it’s so informative and you will love it. Team Joyce use it often to keep our horses updated with the changes of their work load.

Breeding is very time consuming but hopefully the long term result shall be a delightful one. Wes is busy riding Bolero de la vie Z and Fly Hendenlaan Z to keep them fit and ready for Boneo Cup in January and Tiffany is riding LH Johnny while working. Sarah is also riding her LH Albert and occasionally Fly because she is going to jump him at some shows as well like Lang Lang and Sale in February. So it’s all systems go here at Lals Haven stud, just horsin’ and jumpin’ around and enjoying the festive season at the same time!
