Australian show jumper David Cameron has claimed victory in the $32,000 1.45m CSI2* Speed class at the World Equestrian Center (WEC) Ocala Summer Series VII in Florida (22–27 July), producing the quickest clear round aboard Beijing LS La Silla to top a competitive field of 20 international combinations.

Close behind in second place was Spain’s Juan Gallego Martinez, riding Oriana Van’t Ruytershof to a fault-free finish in 67.51 seconds. Rounding out the podium was American rider Robert Mendoza on Queen B, who also jumped clear in 72.00 seconds.

Aussie-owned stallion

Beijing LS La Silla, a 17-year-old stallion by Quintero Ask out of the top competition mare Carrera La Silla (by Joost), was bred in Mexico at La Silla, a stud renowned for producing top-level horses.

Earlier in his career, Beijing LS competed in Europe before being sold to the Langbecker family in 2018. He went on to compete with Brooke Langbecker in Australia, contesting the Caboolture World Cup in 2019, before being sold to Laura Sloey in 2021. Sloey then campaigned the stallion in North America.

David Cameron, who has been competing extensively with a team of horses in North America since 2021, has partnered with Beijing LS in recent seasons. This latest CSI2* Speed class victory marks the pair’s third FEI win together.

Success continues at Summer Series VIII

The success continued for David and Beijing LS at WEC Ocala Summer Series VIII, where they placed second in another $32,000 1.45m CSI2* Speed class. The pair jumped clear in 63.10 seconds, narrowly missing the win behind Samuel Parot and David Guetta, who stopped the clock at 62.27 seconds.

They are not the only Australian combination to enjoy recent success at WEC Ocala. Earlier in July, Lauren Balcomb and Verdini D’houtveld Z took out the $130,000 CSI3* Grand Prix, further highlighting the strength of Aussie riders on the international stage.
