Billy Raymont has won his third World Cup Qualifier of the season with Caprino (Yalambi’s Carpino Z x Clearway) after claiming the Willinga Park CSI1*-W on Sunday.
The pair were one of only two combinations to jump clear in both rounds, the other being Logan Massie and chestnut stallion Bravado Ego Z (Balougran Z x Carthago) of New Zealand. Billy and Caprino posted the fastest time in the second round (53.9 seconds) to finish just head of the Kiwi combination (55.33 seconds).
Tight contest
Six combinations finished the two rounds of competition on four faults. Tom McDermott and Cooley Gangster (Sligo Candy Boy x Cruising) – fresh from a stint competing in Europe – had four faults in round one but posted the quickest round two time of 47.42 seconds to claim third place.
Fourth place was claimed by last year’s Jumping@Willinga Grand Prix winner, Jamie Winning-Kermond, this time riding Tulara Wat Colblensky (Cornet Obolensky x Colman). The pair had four faults in round two and posted a time of 48.68 seconds in round two.
Fifth place went to Rhys Stones riding Riverton Kanntador (Kannan x ASB Conquistador), with four faults in round one and a time of 49.39 seconds in round two.
Sixth place went to the Tamworth World Cup winners from New Zealand, Julie Davey on LT Holst Freda (Colman x Casall). This combination had four faults in round one and posted a time of 51.54 seconds in round two.
Seventh place went to Clem Smith riding Oaks Conjuror (Chicago x Dollar de La Pierre), with four faults in round two and a time of 52.35 seconds in round two, while eighth place was secured by Jennifer Wood on Ipod (Cera Cassiago), with four faults in round one and a time of 53.63 seconds in round two.
Inclement weather
Held as part of Jumping@Willinga, the Willing Park CSI1*-W was the seventh leg of the Australian World Cup League. Initially scheduled for Saturday, gusty winds saw the class of 29 combinations postponed until early Sunday morning.
With three wins from six starts, Billy leads the Australian World Cup League as riders now look ahead to the eighth leg in Sale, Victoria (24 November).
