Six-time Olympian Mary Hanna rode rising 12-year-old Australian-bred gelding CJP Sir Dragonfire II to claim the Big Tour Championship for owners Christopher Ardron and Jason York. Mary achieved 67.229% in Friday’s Grand Prix and 65.905% in Saturday’s Grand Prix Special.

Mary also rode new import Fauntleroy to win the Advanced 5.2 with 69.079% and the 5.3 with 69.122%. Fauntleroy (by Blue Hors Farrell) was bought in Europe at Medium level. The gelding joined Mary’s Olympic team reserve horse Ivanhoe on his return home from Paris and the pair were in quarantine together, becoming the best of friends. As Mary explains to Roger in the January/February issue of Equestrian Life, Fauntleroy reminds her of her beautiful horse Sancette, who went to the 2012 London Olympics and 2014 World Equestrian Games in France.

History was made in the Preliminary arena at Boneo on Saturday, with Stacey Rusic competing with Troika Widgie Bar in a side saddle. Equestrian Australia recently changed the rules to allow side saddles in EA dressage tests, with Stacey being instrumental in pushing for this change. The combination finished sixth and seventh in the two Preliminary tests, with two consistent scores over 60%. You can read more about Stacey and her journey in the side saddle discipline via the January/February issue of Equestrian Life.
