“We are so saddened to report the passing of Woodstock Bennett,” said Ryan Wood and Woodstock Eventing on Monday.

“Bennett was an exceptional horse that always rose to the occasion, whether it was at the 5* level with Ryan or in the dressage ring with Curran in his twilight years. Thank you Bennett, we will miss you.”

Woodstock Bennett, a chestnut Irish Sport Horse by Shannondale Sarco St Ghyvan out of Donail Belle (by Beau Royale), was owned by Ryan in conjunction with Curran Simpson. Bennett was imported to the United States in 2012 and came to Ryan as a four-year-old who had been started by a show jumper in Ireland. He was officially retired from elite level eventing in 2022.

With Ryan in the saddle, the gelding won Bromont CCI4*L in 2016, was fourth at Morven CCI4S* in 2018, and then finished eighth at Pau CCI5* the same year – leading to the combination being named the reserve for the Australian team at the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon.

Rest in peace, Woodstock Bennett. Equestrian Life’s thoughts are with Ryan Wood, Curran Simpson, and the Woodstock Eventing team.
