“From humble begins back in 2002 when as a young 13-year-old boy I watched coloured Hanoverian stallion High Rail Roll the Dice showjumping at Melbourne Royal, I knew I had to have one,” says Chris Davie, founder of Kenlock Park Stud in Murchison, Victoria.
“My father said you can go buy a broodmare with your pocket money and get her in foal to him and so this was the start of what is now Kenlock Park stud – Coloured Warmbloods. Our stud is based over two farms; our main breeding farm is on 400 acres with excellent horse facilities including foaling paddocks, an arena, breeding collection shed and full reproduction laboratory. We have around 100 horses on farm including broodmares, stallions and youngsters.”
Chris explains that Kenlock Park Stud offers a range of services including foaling down, standing stallions at stud, and fresh/frozen/chilled semen reproduction mares – both with their own stallions or outside stallions. “We also offer agistment for broodmares and youngsters to grow in large paddocks with those of a similar age,” adds Chris.
“Our business is about producing the best quality coloured warmblood horses, utilising great stallions and mares that come from a competition background or from an outstanding pedigree.
Since the beginning, Kenlock has grown its foundation broodmare bloodlines to include Quaterback, Dancier, Royal Classic, Cassini II and Contender, just to name a few.
“Our current two stallions we sourced from America as foals, and they have given us a great foundation,” explains Chris. “Kenlock Superman, the first we imported, is an Oldenburg stallion. He has produced many Premium awarded foals, Royal Show champions, FEI dressage champions, 1.40m show jumpers and three-star level eventers.
“Our second stallion is Kenlock Indian Sky, another imported Oldenburg stallion who has won many dressage events, including champion Medium-level horse right through to FEI Intermediate I. He also placed in the top five of the 4/5YO class Dressage & Jumping with the Stars. He has gone on and produced some outstanding offspring, including 1.35m show jumpers, two-star level eventers, FEI-level dressage horses and top show horses.”
Each year Kenlock produces around 20 foals, which are for sale. Visit www.kenlockpark.com for all sales horses, stallions and a list of foals expected in 2024.
