Mary Hanna has taken out the FEI Dressage World Cup Pacific League Final at The Victorian Dressage Festival on Saturday with her 11-year-old KWPN gelding Ivanhoe.
The pair scored 76.560% to win the CDI-W Grand Prix Freestyle and claim the Pacific League Final, meaning they now have the opportunity to compete at the FEI Dressage World Cup Final next year in Basel, Switzerland.
Ivanhoe, by Desperado out of a Jazz mare, was recommended to Mary by Patrik Kittel in late 2022. She has since brought ‘Ivan’ up through Small Tour to Grand Prix, and the pair were the reserve combination for the Australian team at this year’s Paris Olympic Games. You can read more about how the partnership came about in the June 2024 issue of Equestrian Life.
Second in the CDI-W Grand Prix Freestyle this evening was Wendi Williamson of New Zealand with Don Vito MH, with the pair only a fraction behind Mary and Ivanhoe on a score of 76.35%. It was an incredibly close top three, with David McKinnon and Estupendo scoring 75.550%.
Fourth place went to Robbie McKinnon and D’Esperanza on a PB of 72.92%, while in fifth was Rozzie Ryan and Bronze Boy R on a PB of 72.085%. Bronze Boy R has also competed to four-star level eventing with Heath Ryan – there surely can’t be another dressage horse scoring over 70% in a CDI-W that has evented to that level!
Caroline Wagner was sixth with Ibicus on 69.59%, and Justine Greer was seventh with Fonzie II on 68.83%. What an incredible class and scores for the FEI Dressage World Cup Pacific League Final!
The CDI-U25 Grand Prix Freestyle saw a win to Maddison Vallender and 14-year-old gelding Ronan R, with a PB score of 71.305%. The pair produced a consistent test that resulted in a unanimous win from all five judges. By Regardez Moi out of a Richmeed Medallion mare, Ronan R was bred by Heath Ryan and trained by Sappho Ranson-Elliot at Ryans Horses, with Maddy purchasing him around two and half years ago. They debuted in the competition arena at Advanced level and reached Grand Prix level earlier this year. Also winning yesterday’s CDI-U25 Grand Prix, Maddy took out the Championship title.
Second in the CDI-U25 was Amy Bachmann and SWS Debutante on 66.985%, and third went to Isabelle Luxmoore with Hill Cottage Jazmira on 65%. Amy Bachmann and SWS Debutane were the CDI-U25 Grand Prix Reserve Champions.
