No dressage at Royal Windsor Horse Show in 2025

Royal Windsor Horse Show will not host a dressage competition in 2025, as the running of CDI classes at the multi-discipline show has become financially unviable.

Royal Windsor had hosted a CDI for the past eight years, with the exception of a Covid-enforced hiatus from 2020 to 2022. In 2025, no CDI will be run.

Horse & Hound has reported that the competition format and general high cost of running the event has led to the CDI classes being dropped from the program. Royal Windsor’s competition format means the initial CDI4* Grand Prix class needs to be run a day earlier than the official show opening day; the costs associated with opening the showgrounds for an additional day to accommodate one class, in conjunction with the costs of running the event itself, led to the decision.

A dressage masterclass will be held, although there will be no competition.

Last year, Australian Jayden Brown competed in the CDI4* at Royal Windsor, notably placing fourth in the CDI4* Grand Prix Freestyle with WillingaPark Quincy B as part of their successful Paris Olympic campaign.

Fellow British event venue Hickstead has faced similar issues, announcing in October that the All England Dressage Festival will not run in 2025 due to economic viability.
