Dual Olympian Simone Pearce set foot in the show jumping arena last week, saddling up for CSI Gorla Minora in Italy alongside her partner Martin Fuchs.

Simone rode 14-year-old Zangersheide mare Calico Z (Calvados Z x Hold Up Premier) to finish third in the CSI1* 110cm Special Two-Phase and second in the CSI1* 110 Against the Clock, before winning the CSI1* 110cm Two-Phase on the final day. The pair jumped clear in all three classes.

“What an incredible experience to do the first show with our little unicorn ‘Kiki’ at CSI Gorla Minore,” said Simone via social media.

“Jumping is such a totally different challenge to what I’m used to, but I had three great days of learning and gaining confidence and trust thanks to this special little horse. We finished the week with 3/3 clear rounds, which I think improved in technique and flow day to day, which was my biggest aim of the show.

“Now I’m excited to go home and step by step work towards improving myself and my riding for the next goals.”

Martin Fuchs also had a very successful show, among other results winning the CSI2* 145cm Grand Prix on the last day with his young horse L&I Lorde.
