With spring in the air, Victorian eventers emerged from their winter break last weekend for Friends of Werribee Park EA Horse Trials (23-25 August). With national classes ranging from EvA65 through to CCN3*S, riders of all levels took the opportunity to kick-start the eventing season.

The Golden Plains Equine CCN3*S went to Kirilee Hosier and her own 17-year-old AEA Flynn (Flemmingh x AEA Lucinda, by Stirling Luther). The pair, who were fourth at Adelaide CCI5*L earlier this year, enjoyed their start to the season and finished on their dressage score of 29.4.

“Flynn was super, and we finally cracked a sub-30 dressage score,” says Kirilee. “He came out on cross country like his last start at Adelaide in the five-star; it was a great first run to start the season.”

Kirilee was also thrilled with her RB Sellars trophy rug, received by all class winners at the event. “It’s a nice lightweight woollen that’s versatile for all weather,” she commented. Next stop for Kirilee and Flynn will be Spring Horse Trials, also held at Werribee Park (6-8 September).

Teegan Ashby and off the track Thoroughbred (OTT) Magic Mushroom TAE finished second on 31.2, with Shashank Singh Kataria in third place on 31.6 with Icaro LB.

CCN2*S

The Valley Horsewear CCN2*S went to Amy Gotts-Wheeler and Sharvalley Wild Thing on 29.6. Georgia Spangaro and Lord Wimborne were second on 30.7, with Olympian Megan Jones and Cadello MPH third on 30.8. Amy was also the recipient of the Darren Green Memorial Award.
