After battling encephalitis and the heartbreaking loss of her daughter, Molly, Linda found healing and purpose through horses. Exploring gut health transformed her own wellbeing, inspiring her to apply the same principles to her horse, Cruz. The remarkable results led to the creation of Poseidon Animal Health in 2018 — founded on the belief that better gut health can transform lives, both human and equine.
Flagship product
Poseidon’s flagship product, DigestiveEQ, was developed in partnership with leading authorities in equine nutrition and gut health, including a PhD researcher whose work focuses on the complex role of gut bacteria and digestive enzymes in equine health.
As Poseidon’s resident veterinarian, Dr Erin Roddy, explains, we should not underestimate the importance of a horse’s gastrointestinal tract. “Around 80% of the horse’s immune system is in their GI tract, which is amazing and different from almost any other species,” she says. “The horse’s GI tract is everything to them.”
Since the release of DigestiveEQ, Poseidon has continued to research and develop a range of products centred on supporting horses’ gut health. DigestiveHP (formerly Digestive RP) is a core health product that has joined the range, backed by science and designed to meet the needs of horses who demand more from their gut health support than the standard.
While DigestiveEQ remains a powerful, foundational product designed for everyday gut health, Poseidon recognised that some horses face greater digestive challenges — and need more intensive support.

What’s the difference between DigestiveEQ and DigestiveHP?
DigestiveHP (HP referring to High Performance) is formulated specifically for sport horses and those under greater stress from travel, stabling, or competition, or with a higher risk or history of gut health issues.
A targeted, premium formulation built on the proven base of DigestiveEQ, DigestiveHP is fortified with higher levels of key active ingredients and includes additional components to help manage the extra strain placed on the digestive system during periods of high demand.
Designed as a standalone supplement, it combines buffering agents, amino acids, digestive enzymes, a toxin binder (not available in New Zealand), and yeast postbiotics, offering support for both the stomach and hindgut. It also contains higher levels of active ingredients than DigestiveEQ.

Can you switch between the two?
It’s a common question. As it takes around 28 days to reach steady-state levels of active ingredients, DigestiveHP is best used continuously for those that need it. In the case of competition horses, it should be used at least for the duration of the competition season.
Some owners choose to switch to DigestiveEQ during the off-season. As with any feed or supplement, changes should be made gradually. If you plan to switch between the two, transition over about two weeks by slowly reducing one while introducing the other. It’s important to note that DigestiveEQ and DigestiveHP should not be fed together.
Both products are safe for long-term use, formulated to provide daily support for horses with sensitive or compromised digestive systems.
