Aussie expat Jye Thurgate will be the guest rider for the 2025 NSW Young Horse Championships, sponsored by Australian Equestrian Incentive Events, which are held in conjunction with the 2025 Sydney CDI (30 April – 3 May).
“Jye has been based in Germany with Stefan Wolff since 2017 where he obtained his Bereiter Certificate (government recognised professional riding apprenticeship) under Stefan where he remains working alongside Stefan,” states the event in today’s announcement.
“Jye completed and passed his exams in 2021. The exams were of course in German, so upon moving to Germany he had to learn the language.
“Prior to living in Germany, Jye rode up to 3* level eventing in Australia. His strengths were also to start off young horses, therefore in Stefan’s stable he was handed the task to prepare young horses for competitions or for future sales, which has been a successful part of the business.
“Jye has been successful with many wins and placings from three-year-old classes up to Young Horse Medium classes (five- to seven-year-old horses). He now starts off fewer horses focusing more on the training and competing of the young horses and improving his skill to make the next step to compete in higher level dressage in the next 12 months.”
Praise from Stefan Wolff
Stefan Wolff has certainly been impressed by the Australian. “Jye has the feeling, passion, and determination that it takes to develop a young horse according to the classical principles,” says Stefan. “Going through the German training system, he passed the Bereiter Exam, showed stallions in performance tests, and competed young horses successfully up to six-year-old classes. Jye’s experience with eventing and racehorse training is a massive asset to his horsemanship.”
An exciting event ahead
The Australian Equestrian Incentive Events Young Horse Championships qualifying rounds will be held on Thursday and Friday, 1-2 May 2025. The winner and runner up in each age group (4/5/6/7-year-old) in Round 2 will go forward to the Finals with Jye as the Guest Rider.
The Finals will be held in the Indoor Arena on Saturday, 3 May 2025 from around 11.30am. Check the website for details closer to the event.
The announcement follows last week’s news of the event being set to feature the world’s richest first place prize money for a 6-year-old young dressage horse. You can read more about the AEIE 6YO Dressage Futurity here.
