The Martin Collins Grand Prix at the GDP Classic is set to deliver one of the most competitive show jumping contests of the showjumping season, with twenty-three riders and twenty-six horse-and-rider combinations vying for the $20,000 winners cheque. Held at Boneo Park, the event will see a mix of experienced campaigners and debutants competing for one of the most sought-after titles in Australian show jumping.
Of the top field, Sam Overton returns to defend his title, while Billy Raymont will present Caprino and Tulara Dakchico, looking to build on his recent success in the Australian World Cup Qualifying Series. Also in contention is Phillip Lever’s Billionaire NZPH, the reigning Australian Champion, alongside experience Clem Smith with Quantico 12 and debutants Kate Hinschen with Calouandra PS.
Blamcent Park Open 1.40m
Competition commenced on Thursday with the Blamcent Park Open 140cm, offering an early indication of form ahead of the Grand Prix. Young Victorian rider Jack Barker set the benchmark aboard Tulara on Trend, securing a commanding victory in 28.07 seconds. Billy Raymont, finished second with Caprino in 29.78 seconds, whilst Tori Stuckey and Jaybee Ballon Dor rounded out the podium in 30.41 seconds.
Godspell Park Mini Prix
Not to be missed, the Mini Prix class also offers one of the largest prize pools in Australia, with an $8,000 winner’s cheque. Of the top riders to watch from 8am Sunday, Billy Raymont competes with Blue Balou PS and Nixstar, whilst Frida Lindgren brings Tulara Flare and Wondaree Colleen to the class, and recently returned Amber Fuller rides Balian D’N Hop Z.
