Australian eventer Grace Kay is currently eighth in the CCIO4S Nations Cup at Strzegom Horse Trials in Poland following the cross country phase on Saturday.
Grace jumped clear with Bluefields For Cello, adding just 12 time faults to her dressage score of 32.8 to finish the day on 44.8 and move up one placing heading into Sunday’s final jumping phase.
Grace, 29, has been competing in Europe since 2022, with Bluefields For Cello completing his first FEI event there at CCI1-Intro level in July of that year. The pair stepped up to four-star level this year.
Fellow Aussie Andrew Hoy finished with just four time faults, but a frangible pin activation – the first ever for the pair – at fence 19A saw a further 11 faults added to his score with Vassily de Lassos. Andrew and Vassily finished the day in 13th place on 47.1.
The third Australian combination, Kevin McNab and Scuderia 1918 Don Quidam, withdrew prior to the cross country. They had been the highest placed Aussies following the dressage phase in second place.
The Australian team were first after the dressage phase, but are without a drop score at this event and finished cross country day in fifth place.
Following the second horse inspection, the show jumping begins at 2.30pm CEST on Sunday (10.30pm AEST).
