Windy and wild conditions at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre did little to deter Victoria’s best of the best at the 2025 Equestrian Victoria Rider State Titles, and the 56th Barastoc Horse of the Year Show this weekend.

This prestigious event brings together top show horses and riders from across the state, competing in a range of classes for the chance to win a coveted HOTY title and secure qualifications for the EA Australasian Show Horse and Rider Championships, which will return to Werribee Park later this year.

Barastoc Hall of Fame Inductee 2025

In recognition of his immense contributions to Equestrian Victoria and its various disciplines, but particularly Show Horse, the late Mr. Peter Heagney was named the 2025 Barastoc Hall of Fame inductee. In a fitting tribute, Fiona McIntyre, chair of the Show Horse committee, presented the honor to Peter’s wife, Helen, during Friday’s OTT classes — a program that Peter passionately supported given his association with the racing industry.
