The Summer Showjumping Classic CSI-W, hosted at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre from 5 to 8 December 2024, continues to be a cornerstone event on the Australian equestrian calendar. Featuring a range of competitions—from Young Horses and Juniors to the highly anticipated World Cup Qualifier on Saturday afternoon—this four-day showcase brings together riders, breeders, and spectators for a celebration of the sport at every level.

Thursday’s Young Horse Day, sponsored by Alice Cameron of Oaks Sport Horses, marked a decade-long tradition inspired by Cameron and Jane Frankum. The day highlights the future of Australian showjumping, providing a platform for young horses to demonstrate their potential on a national stage. With classes catering to 5, 6, and 7-year-old horses, the competition showcased a blend of careful breeding, skillful training, and the next generation of riders.

In the 5-Year-Old 1.05m Class, Olivia Twist (Blackall Park Twist x Diarado), bred by Dornfeld Stud, stood out as a promising talent under owner Nikita Moore, who guided the mare to victory with a flawless jump-off time of 39.820 seconds. Following closely was Glenara Bacarat, piloted by Anneliese Wansey, showcasing the strong pedigree of Caslaa ASK x Conquistador. Emma Mason and Cidor (Cinsey x Zirocco Blue) secured third place, demonstrating determination and a strong partnership.

The 6-Year-Old 1.15m Class was a showcase of careful preparation and potential. Oaks Queen of Sheba (Oaks Quizzical x Tangelo), bred by Oaks Sport Horses, took top honors with Madeline Sinderberry in the saddle, completing the jump-off in 34.350 seconds. Second place went to Bonnie Valley Hakuna Matata (Glenara Cowboy x Unknown), while third was claimed by Oaks Cricket (Cicero Z x Rex Z), another standout from Oaks Sport Horses.

In the 7-Year-Old 1.25m Class, Glenara Leonardo Z (Lux Z x Conquistador), bred by Glenara Park, demonstrated exceptional promise with Samantha Dernee in the saddle, securing first place with a jump-off time of 34.520 seconds. James Paterson-Robinson and Yirrkala Miss Dior (Diarado x Embassy I) claimed second place, while Paige McBain and Greengrove Caspian (Dynamite Bay x Quidam’s Rubin) took third.

The Thoroughbred Sporthorse Assoc. Group 1.20m Class featured a competitive yet intimate field. Michelle Spiteri and Araluen Gold secured the win with a determined performance. Jeff Penza and Bojack followed in second.

The Young Horse Day at Sydney Summer Classic underscored the importance of breeding and development programs in shaping the future of showjumping. The collaboration between riders and breeders was evident in every class, as competitors laid the groundwork for promising careers. As the event continues through the weekend, all eyes turn to the pinnacle competition—the World Cup Qualifier—which will begin at 2pm AEST Saturday.
